Choosing a CRM System, Top Applications Compared

Posted by: Sonja Fridell

We tell people all day… CRM systems do basically the same stuff.

The things listed below are some of the defining factors that will steer you towards one application or another.

  • Price
  • Deployment
  • Ease of customization (do you have to hire a programmer for every field change?)
  • Database models
  • User Interface
  • And more recently, add-on apps
To help answer these questions, we’ve put together multiple white papers on the topics, listed below. The graphic below is a good summery as well.

SalesLogix Web Brings Back Memories

It’s often forgotten why or how certain CRM applications became popular, specifically in light of competitive products who build amazing brand awareness (e.g.  Salesforce.com).  SalesLogix is just one of those applications.  I remember in the late 90′s when SalesLogix was the new challenger in the mid market. It dominated the market with functionality that allowed the small to mid sized companies afford a powerful solution without spending the monies required to run an application like Siebel ( of course what small company ever could afford to run Siebel?).

In addition, SalesLogix offered easy to use functionality.  You’d get all of the great things we took for granted like drag and drop functionality and right mouse button clicking that made it easy to navigate and fast to use.  Easy to use has always been the creed when trying to advance end user adoption and SalesLogix seemed to take it’s lead from it’s little brother application, ACT! .

Today, when I review all of the CRM applications on the market, even I forget about the little things that make it easy to use sofware.  I suppose my biggest gripe today with the more popular web interface products is the lack of true windows client functionality and the speed to perform certain tasks as I did in a windows client.

I was recently using the SalesLogix Web Cloud product I had an epiphany.  The folks at Sage incorporated many of those windows client elements that I liked so much.  I found right mouse button clicking  made the web experience much easier to navigate rather than having to click through multiple links like other web applications.  I was able to drag and drop emails and documents onto the SalesLogix screen from my desktop right into the account record. I missed those little nuances in other web CRM applications I’ve used or test driven. Bottom line, it’s the little things that count.

Microsoft CRM vs. SalesLogix

Posted by: Sonja Fridell
Tags:

Microsoft CRM is the new kid on the CRM block, debuting in 2003 and Sage SalesLogix has been a leader in the market for 13 years. There are differences across the board in both applications. For many users, it’s a matter of look and feel. Others are more concerned with functionality.

Some of the larger differences in the two solutions are user adoption, ease of use, architecture, TCO and partner support.

These points and more are addressed in BrainSell’s latest White Paper.

5 Reasons to Try Sage SalesLogix

Posted by: Sonja Fridell

slx cloudSalesLogix CRM has been around for a while. It’s most commonly known as a LAN-based product. However, this year, Sage released SalesLogix Cloud. You can now deploy SLX in the cloud and have it from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Why should you try out SalesLogix?

  1. It’s a GREAT deal: You can own SalesLogix and still deploy it as a cloud application. Unlike Salesforce.com or SugarCRM , which are subscription based models (SAAS). Buying SalesLogix makes a LOT of sense if you want to see an ROI in the first few years.
  2. Safety: SLX can live in the Cloud, or you can have it on your server, unlike Salesforce.com, which doesn’t allow you to host your own instance.  Salesforce.com is also a multi-tenant application, your info has neighbors and that’s not ideal.
  3. Sage is a great company: Sage SalesLogix is not a direct sell company, therefore, you have a partner helping you every step of the way. This makes for a very unique and personal relationship with software. Partners will fight for you, and Sage will listen.
  4. Tie ERP in: SalesLogix can mesh well with Sage ERP products, such as MAS 500. Want to see purchase orders in your CRM? You can do that with Sage products.
  5. Functionality: You get more for your money. Hundreds of times more data storage than Salesforce.com, offline access is standard with SLX, you can export and control your data with SLX, unlike many Cloud apps.

SalesLogix for the iPad, CRM Adoption Magic

Apple has inspired a lot of people lately. Their much hyped release of the iPad has made many people rethink the way they do business. One of those people is Mike Ladd, President & CEO of Euchner-USA.

Euchner makes safety switches and automation systems for a variety of industries. Ladd’s salespeople are constantly traveling, so entering notes in a CRM system is imperative to track all of those on site visits. Ladd understands the value of CRM, and he has been disappointed with user adoption. He hopes to change all of that with SalesLogix Web on the iPad.

“There is a tremendous amount of good information in SalesLogix,” said Ladd. However, Euchner has been using SalesLogix LAN version. His salespeople are less inclined to use CRM on the road since SalesLogix can only be accessed through a cumbersome laptop.

“Their notes aren’t good because they save them up for the end of the week,” said Ladd. “They take notes on the back of a business card and then try to replicate them in SalesLogix. A lot gets left out.”

Those days will soon be over. SalesLogix has a few different deployment options now; SAAS, Web and LAN. Euchner is deploying SalesLogix Web in a few weeks. Their LAN instance will now be accessible through a unique URL.

Ladd has had an iPad for a while now and he’s convinced that SalesLogix on the iPad will encourage his sales team to take notes when they’re on site. Ladd expects SalesLogix on the iPad will generate better reporting, streamline the sales process better and save a tremendous amount of time.

“The value of SalesLogix is built for this,” said Ladd about the iPad. “My sales people can look at history notes in SalesLogix and they’ll be better prepared. The iPad is fun to use, and if it’s fun, people will use it more.”
