What is Inbound Marketing? And Why Does It Deserve its Own Conference? (video)

Posted by: Sonja Fridell

Inbound Marketing: A non-traditional way to marketing to prospects through providing valuable content and thus becoming a trusted advisor.

We transformed our business two years ago with Inbound Marketing and we want to spread the love! There is an entire conference on Inbound Marketing now, and if you’re into it as much as we are, you should go.

BrainSell was at the Inbound Marketing summit last fall in Boston, and we loved it so much that we’re doing IMS this February in the Big Apple too!

This year, they’ve done things a little differently. The conference will be broken out into topics, Inbound Marketing, Mobile Content, Content Automation, and Convergence.

Speakers include Chris Brogan, Laura Fitton, Tim Hayden and more. The Pulse Network puts on the show, and this year, they invited us into their studio to shoot some video on BrainSell’s obsession with Inbound Marketing. Check out the videos below.

Sugar Ramps Up Social CRM Integration

SugarCRM announced it has extended the capabilities of its mobile apps, deepened its relationship with IBM, and acquired iExtensions CRM.

SugarCRM has extended the capabilities of its social customer relationship management (CRM) software through new integration with applications from a bevy of industry heavyweights — including expansion of the company’s partnership with IBM, as well as SugarCRM’s acquisition of iExtensions CRM from iEnterprises, adding BlackBerry and Droid Mobile applications to its list of offerings. The announcements were made during the annual SugarCon conference last week.

President and CEO Jim Ward was interviewed about Sugar’s newest developments.

BrainSell was given the MVP and 2x 2010 awards at SugarCon 2011, for going above and beyond Sugar’s expectations and more than doubling their business in 2010. Read about it here.

BrainSell News Discusses SugarCRM Collaboration Feature

SugarCRM versus Salesforce.com.  Again it’s the fast that eat the slow not the big that eat the small.  SugarCRM provides a chatter-styled feature before any other CRM vendor has a chance to react to Salesforce.com’s Chatter.

Jim and Sonja from BrainSell News discuss.

3 Reasons Why Accepting Credit Cards Makes Business Sense

Posted by: Jim Ward
Tags:

sage paymentsPersonally I put off accepting credit cards for years. Then incrementally I tried Pay Pal and Google invoice for those rare occasions that clients insisted on paying by credit card.  Pay Pal and Google invoice, while helpful, didn’t provide the credibility for our business; as we’d experience problems with no one to call. So here’s what we’ve found since adding Sage Payment solutions with their virtual terminal.

1. We’ve lowered our days to collect; as many prefer to pay via credit card (reward points).

2. Sales have increased (allowing non bank financing for our products and services).

3. We’ve reduced our exposure to bad debt. A credit card on file for those accounts who might not have enough credit terms with your company allows the sale to move forward without risk.

Yes, accepting credit cards cost around 3% off your top line, however if your margins are really tight, add a credit card processing fee.  You’ll be surprised how many people understand and accept the fee in order to use their credit card.

We’ve only been accepting credit cards with a true merchant account since the July.  The volume of sales through the credit have been astounding.

3 Reasons Why Walls Have No Place in Small Business

Posted by: Jim Ward

office with no wallsWalls are meant to protect, to keep people in or out, to maintain privacy. Walls have no place in small business. Think of a large room with no walls, no dividers, no privacy. That’s the new small business space.

Here’s why your office needs no walls:

1. Training: Most small companies have limited resources when it comes to the ability to train. In order to grow training, your new, young or inexperienced team members are essential. Place these folks right next to experienced people in your company. Remember, no private offices. Training then becomes insidious. It’s part of the daily routine. Learn by listening, for both the trainer/mentor and the newbie.

2. Communication: Even large companies could improve communication. There’s nothing like hearing your team and knowing every essential detail about the business by not letting a private office separate communications. Real teams have nothing to hide. Think special forces. Small units that are highly specialized and completely on the same page.

3. Water cooler. Open spaces remove the “water cooler effect.” Whereby newsworthy information or office gossip is now part of the team talk, not a select few around the water cooler. Nothing breaks down the small business team more than fear, uncertainty and doubt. When your team removes negative talk and faces real situations together, situations are resolved as one. People can thrive without fear.

These are a few of the principles I’ve applied to our business at BrainSell.  Years of more traditional experience proved to  me that private offices are obstacles to growth.

Grow and love your environment.
