I’ve seen the future and I’m not sure I saw a Blackberry.
First, I’m not a technologist and can’t explain technical details of why the Blackberry may have already seen its best days, I’m simply a user. A long time user. And today in a mobile world it’s all about usability. I’m also in the business of providing business technology: CRM (SalesLogix, SageCRM, ACT!, SugarCRM) and ERP software (Sage MAS 90, MAS 200, MAS 500, ACCPAC ERP, Acumatica). It’s clear that our clients and prospects are looking toward becoming increasingly mobile. Our software vendors are also gearing up for the mobility revolution.
In order to be a successful mobile user, the hardware needs to make using these applications, well, usable. Having tried hardware like the iPad, Android and iPhone and comparing those to using any of the Blackberry solutions, I fear Blackberry may not win this competition.
Does the Blackberry go the way of the Tyrannosaurus Rex? I think it does, unless RIM reinvents itself, and fast. I’d love to hear other thoughts on this so comment away.
I completely agree.. and I have two- a Blackberry for home and a newer one from work. But, I get jealous when I see friends use their iPhones.. Easier to use and can do much more.
Blackberry needs to evolve quickly!

Marci – I’m leaning toward the Droid next, and only hope Verizon get the iPhone!

As an avid iPhone user (since it was first launched..) my take on this is that Apple better understands what mobile users need/want to do with their handheld device. In my case I use the iPhone more as a mobile computing platform than as a device just to access email and use as a phone. The Droid is a step in the right direction, but I have never been attracted to the Blackberry because of it’s lack of abilities.
It will be interesting to see what Apple announces on June 7th regarding the expected iPhone 4 with iPhone OS 4.0..

I’m anxiously awaiting my upgrade to the HTC EVO 4G phone next week. I’ve been a Palm users for years now. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my Palm Pre. In the business world, the one thing I love about the Blackberry is the ability to hit a button and answer a call. The newer style phones with virtual keyboards and drag-to-answer can be pain to answer a call. But the selling point on these new iPhones and Droid units is the ease in which you can easily add exciting new functionality through the App exchange. Someone has “moved the cheese” for RIM. I thought long and hard about a decision to upgrade to Droid. I really was intending to get the Blackberry, but the technology behind Droid made it an easy decision against RIM.

The Blackberry is a nice device for what it can do, but the Windows based phones offer much more. Many IT professionals opt/promote using the Windows base.

Yes I agree and I personally feel Blackberry is good device but iPhone, Andriod are really better usability than Blackberry.

Totally agree! And Rim’s recent service outage does NOT help them
